# Masks

### What Are Masks?

{% hint style="info" %}
Masks are the core progression system in HeadHunter. The more heads you collect and store, the more powerful masks you can create!
{% endhint %}

Masks are powerful helmets crafted from the mob heads you collect while hunting. Each mask is infused with custom enchantments that give you a competitive edge in survival. By collecting and storing mob heads, you can craft increasingly powerful masks that grant unique abilities not found in vanilla Minecraft.

### How Masks Work

Masks are obtained by crafting them at <mark style="color:$success;">Head Storage Blocks</mark> (see [Head Storage Blocks](/headhunter/gameplay-guides/head-storage-blocks.md) form more info) using stored mob heads. Each mask type corresponds to a mob (PIG, ZOMBIE, ENDERMAN, etc.) and has multiple tiers. To gain the benefits of a mask, you must equip it as a helmet—all custom enchantments will activate automatically while worn.

**Key Points:**

* Masks are crafted, not dropped by mobs
* Each mob type has its own mask progression
* Masks have multiple levels (tiers) with increasing power
* Enchantments only work when the mask is equipped as a helmet
* Masks don't break or lose durability

### How to Craft Masks

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Collect Mob Heads

Kill mobs to obtain their heads as drops. Each head type corresponds to a specific mask.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Store Heads

Store your collected heads in Head Storage Blocks by right-clicking the block with heads in your inventory. See [Head Storage Blocks](/headhunter/gameplay-guides/head-storage-blocks.md) for details.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Check Your Progress

Right-click a Head Storage Block to open the GUI and see:

* How many heads you have stored for each mob
* Which mask levels are available to craft
* What requirements are still needed
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Craft Your Mask

If requirements are met:

* Click on the mob head in the head storage block GUI
* Select the mask level you want to craft
* The mask will be created and added to your inventory
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Equip and Use

Equip your mask as a helmet to gain all its enchantments and effects!
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Mask Requirements

| Requirement    | Description                              |
| -------------- | ---------------------------------------- |
| Stored Heads | Number of heads stored in storage blocks |
| Previous Masks | Number of lower-tier masks required |

***

**Note:** Level 1 masks always have <mark style="color:$success;">PreviousMasksNeeded: 0</mark> (no previous masks required).

### Masks Rewards

Creating or upgrading masks can trigger custom rewards! Rewards are configured in [Mask Rewards Config (mask-rewards.yml)](/headhunter/configurations/mask-rewards-config-mask-rewards.yml.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://headhunter-1.gitbook.io/headhunter/core-features/masks.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
